The First Innovation Data Challenge Launched by the Bank of Italy – Eurosystem and the Central Bank of Ireland

The first Innovation Data Challenge, promoted by the Banca d’Italia – Eurosystem and the Central Bank of Ireland, is set to begin. The initiative is addressed to undergraduate, master’s, specialized master’s, and PhD students interested in innovation in the field of payments.
The challenge will involve three Italian universities: the Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope, through the Napoli Fintech Lab of DISAQ (Department of Business and Quantitative Studies); Università Bocconi; and the Politecnico di Milano.
Participants will gain access to both real and synthetic datasets and will present the results of their work to experts from the two Central Banks during an international virtual showcase.
The research areas of interest include:
– Real-Time & Cross-Border Payments
– Open Banking and API Economy
– Fraud prevention and security
– Sustainable and Ethical Payments
– Crypto and digital assets
📅 Applications are open until February 15, 2026.
The initiative is open to students in economics, finance, data science, engineering,
computer science, and related disciplines.
Operational details and the timeline will be provided in the official materials made available to students of the University of Naples Parthenope who attend the information session scheduled for January 22 (3:30–4:30 p.m.).
