Oncology Networks and Value Creation: The VIMASS Conference at Villa Doria d’Angri

On 14 March 2025, Villa Doria d’Angri hosted the scientific conference “Management of Oncology Networks in Southern Italy: Strengths, Weaknesses, Threats and Opportunities”, focusing on the role of oncology networks in value creation and the future challenges of their management.

The event opened with institutional remarks by Prof. Antonio Garofalo, Rector of the University of Naples “Parthenope”; Prof. Francesca Perla, Director of the Department of Business and Quantitative Studies (DISAQ); and Dr Alfredo Budillon of the “Fondazione G. Pascale” National Cancer Institute.

Under the coordination of Prof. Francesco Schiavone, Scientific Director of the VIMASS Research Lab, the discussion explored the contribution of oncology networks to the organization of healthcare delivery, focusing on development opportunities and the critical issues that need to be addressed to improve care pathways. Among the speakers was Dr Paolo Ascierto, an oncologist at the Pascale Institute.

The concept of value creation was the central theme of the initiative, linking network management to the ability to respond to patients’ needs while promoting coordinated activities and high-quality care. The analysis of strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities provided a framework for understanding the challenges facing oncology networks in Southern Italy.

The conference reflects the VIMASS Lab’s commitment to fostering dialogue between universities and healthcare institutions, contributing to the debate on organizational and managerial models aimed at improving oncology care.
