The research workshop “Bias in Healthcare – The AIACT Project” was held today, 16 April, at the University of Naples “Parthenope”. The event was organized by the VIMASS Research Lab of the Department of Business and Quantitative Studies (DISAQ) as part of the FAIR – Future Artificial Intelligence Research project, funded by the PNRR – NextGenerationEU.
The event provided an important opportunity to present the results of the AIACT project and the prototype developed using an algorithm designed to assess and mitigate the risk of bias in clinical datasets, which can contribute to discrimination and inequalities in healthcare delivery.
Of particular significance was the contribution by Prof. Satish K. Tadikonda, Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School, who addressed the topic “Reducing Bias in AI for Healthcare: Implications and Recommendations for Value-Creators, Managers and Policy-Makers”, providing strategic and practical insights for the design of fairer and more responsible artificial intelligence solutions.
The workshop provided a valuable forum for discussion among academics, researchers, and industry professionals, with contributions focusing on the risks and opportunities associated with synthetic data, the development of optimal datasets for clinical trials, and the design of AI-based solutions to support more inclusive and effective healthcare.
