UNEP FI examines how banks integrate sustainability risks

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative published The Landscape of Sustainability Risk Integration in June 2026. The report examines how banks are incorporating climate, nature, pollution and social risks into their existing prudential risk-management frameworks.

The analysis draws on a consultation with 28 UNEP FI member banks across five regions, together with supervisory reviews and industry surveys. Climate risk remains the most advanced area, while the integration of nature, pollution and social risks is less developed. Governance is comparatively mature, but data, monitoring and reporting remain major challenges.
