2nd Conference on Sustainable Banking & Finance CSBF 2024 – Conference, 21 June 2024

The FinClimate Lab is pleased to report the successful conclusion of the 2nd Conference on Sustainable Banking & Finance, held at the University of Napoli “Parthenope” on June 21, 2024. Building on the success of our inaugural conference, this year’s event further explored and advanced the transformative role of sustainable banking and finance in shaping a more resilient and environmentally conscious future.
 
The 2nd Conference on Sustainable Banking & Finance (CSBF) 2024 concluded on June 21, hosting researchers from the banking and finance sectors for a day of in-depth discussions and work on sustainable finance. During the conference, over 70 scientific papers by authors from various parts of the world were presented. In the morning, after the opening by the Rector, Professor Antonio Garofalo, and Claudio Porzio and Francesca Battaglia, an important roundtable on the topic of ESG Ratings was held. This roundtable included participants from academia, regulators, and industry.
 

Speakers at the roundtable included:

  • Lucia Alessi from the European Commission – JCR, with a presentation titled “Regulation on ESG Rating Activities”
  • Julien Mazzacurati from the European Securities and Market Authority (ESMA), with a presentation titled “Financial supervision, ESG ratings and greenwashing”
  • Florian Berg from the Aggregate Confusion Project at MIT Sloan, with a presentation titled “The Original Sin of ESG”
  • Gianluca Spinetti, Head of Sustainable Fitch, with his intervention on “SG providers in the age of dual materiality”
  • Danilo Chiono, Head of Development at RepRisk, with his intervention on “Risk-focused & outside-in approach.

 

The session was coordinated by Gabriele Sampagnaro.

In the afternoon, following an introduction by Dario Salerno, the keynote address was delivered by Professor Viral V. Acharya, C.V. Starr Professor of Economics at NYU Stern School of Business and former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Professor Acharya engaged the audience with a well-received talk titled “Do firms mitigate climate impact on employment? Evidence from US heat shocks.”
The conference continued with additional workshops and parallel sessions under the umbrella of FinClimate Lab, a new climate finance project launched within the University and proposed by DISAQ.
